Quick Hits
I don't know what it means, but "check all the things" is my new policy.
My 451 colleague Javvad has a newsletter as well that you'd probably like. He's like a gonzo analyst, covering security. "BatCISO"? What's not to like? (I mean, yuh! - also, he's like "backdrops? Fuck it! Press the red button! Go time!")
Cf. "Batmanuel."
Big Data's being held back by little talent, says Huawei head techie - there's a trickle of stories about Huawei coming out on The Register. What I've been enjoying is the pretty frank and clear quotes from execs there.
Rackspace Tumbles 16%: No Deal No Surprise, Lack of Buyback Stings, Says Street - some aftermath of RAX taking down the for sale sign. As I go over in today's Software Defined Talk podcast recording, I think the company has a good "managed cloud" thing in place, now they need to execute on marketing and, you know, the core product. Good luck to the SA crew!
Exclusive: Michael Dell Says Company Is Growing Faster Than HP, Cisco, IBM, Oracle - you know me, I can't resist a Dell momentum story.
SAP buys Concur for $8.3bn - now they have TripIt, which I love. Nice margin for investors: "SAP will pay $129 a share for Concur, a 20 percent premium to Concur’s closing price on Wednesday." This will also give them a pretty hefty cloud/SaaS revenue. Large companies are good at that - buying SaaSes and ASPs to roll-up that cloud revenue. (Hey all you other ERP people, Expensify is pretty awesome!)
If you want to go all numbers crazy on SAP buying Concur, check out Dennis' coverage.
What's a full stack developer?
Earlier this on the Under Development podcast week Bill and I discussed full stack developers in the context of working in a large company. There was also a fun discussion of the odd idea that "a good manager makes themselves unneeded" and what that phrase actually means.
We solve all of OpenStack's problems
(Podcast here if you don't like video - who does?!)
I think our Software Defined Talk podcasts keeps getting better. In this week's recording (video only up at the moment), you can see Brandon move aggressively into the "let me tell you what I really think" zone, which is awesome.
The audio quality of Google oHangouts has been crapping out, so we'll be figuring out other options.

Fun & IRL
I noticed there's a new Run the Jewels album coming out, which made me go back and check if they'd added the first album in Spotify. They have!
I love that El-P sound.
